Adapting the PSHE Curriculum
This workshop session took place at the ITET 2024 Annual PGCE Conference Inclusion & Inspiration - Education for Social Justice. 12 January 2024. University of Manchester. Shaniqua discussed how it is possible to adapt a PSHE curriculum in order to effectively cover and prepare students to live and deal with the wider issues of the world. She highlighted that working in a disadvantaged setting means that these children require more to fill the gaps in their knowledge and experiences. Inclusive education theory plays a role in how the PSHE curriculum can give equal opportunities and access to learning that will develop the whole child and provide them with the key life skills and emotional literacy to succeed. The session covered the reasoning behind an adapted curriculum, the process and results from implementation then finally the next steps.
