This workshop session took place at the ITET 2024 Annual PGCE Conference Inclusion & Inspiration - Education for Social Justice. 12 January 2024. University of Manchester. Frankie highlighted that this session will take students on a journey. We start in the 1980s and explore what it was like to be an LGBT student and teacher during this period. We see how national policy regarding LGBT issues has affected the British education system and how it has evolved over time to the present day. I have just completed PhD research focusing on LGB school leader experiences and I will be sharing the headline findings from this research, some of which may surprise. Together, we will decide what actions you, as new teachers, might be able to take to make a difference in your schools. This will be an interactive session with a variety of tools to enable students to share their thoughts.
