Strategic Altruism: Assessment Criteria for OA Monograph Funding Models

<p dir="ltr">This breakout session was presented at the Together24 Library Staff Conference on Wednesday 12th June 2024.</p><p dir="ltr">This presentation covers the joint Operational Project on Open Access Monographs to:</p><p dir="ltr">- Support the implementation of UKRI’s open access policy for long-form research publications.</p><p dir="ltr">- Develop a strategic framework for evaluating and supporting alternative funding models for open access monographs and associated infrastructure.</p><p dir="ltr">- Ensure a purposeful and holistic approach to acquiring and enabling the discoverability of open access monographs, driving collaboration with COPIM.</p><p dir="ltr">The focus of the presentation is on Work Package 4, providing a practical demonstration of its outputs:</p><p dir="ltr">- ‘Strategic Framework for the Acquisition of OA Monographs,’ and</p><p dir="ltr">- ‘Assessment Criteria for Supporting Collective Funding Models for OA Monographs and Open Infrastructure.’</p><p dir="ltr">We demonstrate how the project-team worked collaboratively to respond to the strategic and operational challenges of supporting sustainable funding models for open access monographs, connecting altruistic aspirations with realistic strategic actions.</p>
