This breakout session was presented at the Together24 Library Staff Conference on Wednesday 12th June 2024.

This presentation covers the joint Operational Project on Open Access Monographs to:

- Support the implementation of UKRI’s open access policy for long-form research publications.

- Develop a strategic framework for evaluating and supporting alternative funding models for open access monographs and associated infrastructure.

- Ensure a purposeful and holistic approach to acquiring and enabling the discoverability of open access monographs, driving collaboration with COPIM.

The focus of the presentation is on Work Package 4, providing a practical demonstration of its outputs:

- ‘Strategic Framework for the Acquisition of OA Monographs,’ and

- ‘Assessment Criteria for Supporting Collective Funding Models for OA Monographs and Open Infrastructure.’

We demonstrate how the project-team worked collaboratively to respond to the strategic and operational challenges of supporting sustainable funding models for open access monographs, connecting altruistic aspirations with realistic strategic actions.
