The Transformative Power of Music in the Classroom
This keynote took place at the ITET 2024 Annual PGCE Conference Inclusion & Inspiration - Education for Social Justice. 12 January 2024. University of Manchester. Jeffrey Boakye is an award-winning author, broadcaster and journalist with a particular interest in issues surrounding race, masculinity, education and popular culture. He has published seven books to date: Musical Truth; Musical World; Kofi and the Rap Battle Summer; Black, Listed; I Heard What You Said; Hold Tight; and What is Masculinity? Why does it matter? And other big questions. He has contributed to four anthologies and has one book scheduled for publication in 2024. Jeffrey is also the co-host of Radio 4’s award winning music programme ‘Add to Playlist’. Jeffrey joined the University of Manchester in 2022 as a senior teaching fellow and his insights into contemporary British education and culture make him an important and compelling voice within the Manchester Institute of Education. In this keynote, Jeffrey talks about the transformative power of music in the classroom.
