Fifty hyperspectral reflectance images of outdoor scenes

The 50 zipped files contain hyperspectral reflectance images of outdoors scenes in Matlab MAT format, each of size ca. 336 x 256 x 33. The file Scenes_and_Names_Key.pdf contains a key for relating image number to scene name.

Each hyperspectral reflectance image was obtained by spectrally scaling an original radiance image 1024 × 1344 x 33 by the reflectance of one or more reference surfaces embedded in the scene. The reflectance image was downsampled from 1024 × 1344 pixels to 336 x 256 pixels by spatial averaging over 4×4 pixels and then smoothed spectrally by averaging over adjacent wavelength values 400, 410, …, 720 nm. Padding artefacts may be present at some image edges.

The montage of colour images in Scenes_and_Names_Key.pdf is for illustration only. Each image was obtained as the product of the reflectance image with a daylight illuminant of correlated colour temperature 6500 K and then rendered as sRGB.

The hyperspectral images were acquired by Sérgio Nascimento, Kinjiro Amano, and David Foster from the Minho region of Portugal in 2002 and 2003.
