A new database for the IODP community: legacy data and the programme after the programme

In this presentation I will present on the first outcomes and progress of a 6-month-long investigation into the need and feasibility of a new UK/Manchester hosted database for International Ocean Drilling Program (and predecessor programs) data. Two workshops were attended (Southampton, Bremen) and I’ll report on the lessons learned, steps forward, and hurdles to overcome. The main conclusions are that there is a great community need for more transparency, connectivity of databases, and standardization of data reporting. However, a new database may not be feasible without substantial further funding and community engagement.
