This document is professional guidance for Approved Mental Health Professionals and spoken and signed language interpreters involved in interpreter-mediated statutory mental health assessments; specifically those undertaken under the Mental Health Act 1983 in England and Wales and similar legislation worldwide. Derived from a research project funded by the NIHR School for Social Care Research, it provides guidance on best practices before, during and after the assessment and provides extensive training resources to assist AMHPs and Interpreters including web hosted video resources for training purposes.
